Cloud Pillow Review: This Tempur-pedic Product Is Perfect For Back And Side Sleepers

Tempur-Pedic Pillow Review

If you’ve ever lost sleep trying to find a comfortable way to rest your head at night you’re not alone. The wrong pillow can leave you with uncomfortable back and neck pain when you wake up.

Tempur-Pedic claims to have an answer. The company’s Tempur-Cloud Pillow is designed for sleepers who are new to memory foam pillows. Tempur-Pedic claims that the pillow’s lower profile and softer feel are similar to a traditional pillow. The Tempur-Cloud Pillow is manufactured to conform to your head and neck, so it provides support throughout the entire night. And according to the company, this pillow works for all sleep positions.

We love products that help you live a better life. However, it’s not wise to blindly trust advertising claims. To find out if the Tempur-Cloud Pillow really does provide personalized support for all sleep positions we tested it out. Here is what we discovered.

How we tested the Tempur-Pedic Pillow

Our tester was experiencing intense back and neck pain every morning. They were using a budget-priced down pillow that was really puffy. However, as soon as our tester placed their head on that pillow, it would sink down to nearly flat, providing barely any support at all. Instead of upgrading their mattress, our tester thought it would be a better strategy to start with the pillow, especially since Tempur-Pedic often has special offers.

Our tester, who is primarily a side and stomach sleeper, used the Tempur-Cloud Pillow exclusively for an extended period of time. They kept track of a number of factors, including initial impressions, comfort and the Tempur-Cloud Pillow’s overall impact on quality of sleep.

A brief history of Tempur-Pedic

What we know as Tempur actually started out as a viscoelastic foam that NASA’s Ames Research Center developed to improve seat cushioning in aircrafts. In the 1980s, NASA released the formula for viscoelastic foam (AKA temper foam) to the public. It was Swedish scientists who perfected the foam for sleeping applications and called it TEMPUR. Bobby Trussell discovered the material on a trip to Sweden and brought it back to the U.S., where he founded Tempur-Pedic Inc.

What is the Tempur-Pedic Pillow?

According to Tempur-Pedic, the Tempur-Cloud Pillow is a low-profile pillow, just 5 inches high, that is designed to offer a good night’s sleep to those who are switching over to memory foam from a traditional pillow. In just a few minutes of use, heat from your body reacts with the high-density polyurethane foam to soften it, allowing it to contour to your head and neck for idealized support. The pillow has a breathable, knit fabric cover that is washable, but the pillow itself, the Tempur, should never be washed. Care and cleaning simply involve rolling and unrolling the material like a sleeping bag. The Tempur-Cloud Pillow has an extra-soft feel and is manufactured to work for all sleeping positions.

First Impression of the Tempur-Pedic Pillow

The most striking aspect of the Tempur-Pedic Pillow to someone who has never used one before is the way that the foam cradles your head. If you are used to a down pillow, which starts off fluffy but flattens out relatively quickly, the Tempur-Cloud Pillow will feel a lot firmer and more substantial. The Tempur-Pedic Pillow has a bit of resistance to it — your head sinks down a little, but still feels supported. For individuals who like to prop themselves up in bed to read or watch TV, this pillow is much better suited for those tasks than other pillows that we’ve used in the past. The Tempur-Cloud Pillow seems to be the perfect mix of firm and soft.

Key features of the Tempur-Pedic Pillow

The three features of the Tempur-Cloud Pillow that stood out over our testing period were softness, breathability and support.

Softness

Our initial impression of the softness of the Tempur-Pedic Cloud Pillow never changed. It remained that delicate balance of soft and firm throughout the entire test period. There isn’t a single thing that we would change about that aspect, so the Tempur-Cloud Pillow earns top points for softness.

Breathability

Admittedly, we sleep cool, so we’ve never had any problems with overheating at night. The good news is the Tempur-Cloud Pillow didn’t adversely affect that. It was sufficiently breathable, which translated to maintaining a comfortable body temperature throughout the night. For those who sleep hot, Tempur-Pedic does offer the Cloud Pillow with cooling gel technology as well.

Support

This pillow provides incredible support, which is ideal for back and side sleepers. However, not all types of sleepers can benefit from this level of support. Tempur-Pedic claims that this extra-soft pillow is for back, side and stomach sleepers; however, we discovered that it is too firm for stomach sleepers to use comfortably. While sleeping on our stomach the pillow pushed our head up a little higher than we would have preferred. However, when we used the pillow while sleeping on our back or side, we felt that the level of support was ideal. This pillow is ideal for those who alternate between sleeping on their back and sleeping on their side.

Can the Tempur-Pedic Pillow Improve Your Sleep?

After sleeping on the Tempur-Cloud Pillow for several weeks, there was a noticeable difference in our ability to stay asleep.

This model is a definite upgrade from the inexpensive down pillow we were using before.

If you are suffering from back or neck aches that get worse after you wake up, the Tempur-Cloud Pillow may help.

While neck and back pain can be attributed to a variety of causes, we found that this pillow significantly reduced our pain when we used it to sleep on our side.

Cleaning the Tempur-Pedic Pillow

We appreciated that the Tempur-Pedic Cloud Pillow comes with a removable cover.

This allows for quick and simple washing. According to the product’s care instructions, the pillow cover should be washed using a cold temperature.

Stain removers or chlorine should never be used when washing, and air-drying is heavily recommended.

If you need to put the pillow cover in the dryer, use a cool setting and be careful not to over-dry.

Tempur-Pedic Pillow Cost

The Tempur-Pedic Cloud Pillow retails for $79, but Tempur-Pedic often has bundling deals.

As of publication, Tempur-Pedic is offering a promotion: two Tempur-Cloud Pillows for $99, which makes the price per pillow much more affordable.

Tempur-Pedic Pillow Pros

We found the Tempur-Pedic pillow to be comfortable and supportive.

It conforms to your head and neck to provide remarkable support all night long without making you feel too hot.

If you are suffering from back and neck ailments, this could be the easy fix that gets you back to a pain-free life.

Tempur-Pedic Pillow Cons

Despite Tempur-Pedic’s claims that this pillow is for back, side and stomach sleepers, the Tempur-Pedic pillow provides a little too much support for someone who prefers sleeping on their stomach.

This pillow also takes some time for off-gassing.

The smell is not very appealing, but it quickly goes away.

Is the Tempur-Pedic Pillow Worth it?

The Tempur-Cloud Pillow is a comfortable pillow that is best suited for the individual who sleeps on their back or side and prefers a medium level of firmness.

It conforms to the neck and head and provides spine-aligning support all night long, so you can wake feeling fully energized and pain free.
